Two bank drivers arrested for attempting to kidnap bank Manager


Two drivers of First Bank Plc, Awka branch, who thought they could earn more money by threatening to kidnap their manager have landed in hot soup.

Mr Izuchukwu Nebolisa, 33 and his colleague, Simeon Obiakor, aged 35, both drivers of First Bank Plc, Awka branch had conspired and continuously sent text messages to their branch manager, Chinwe Ezenwa asking her to pay to them the sum of N2million or she will be kidnapped.

Both were reported to be living in Jesus Estate, Oba in Idemili North Local Government Council.

They sent anonymous text messages which frightened their manager and she lodged a complaint with the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Haruna, a Superintendent of Police, told INDEPENDENT that on receipt of the complaint the police command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) “triangulated and subsequently arrested the suspects on Sunday after sustained intelligence with the aid of modern technology”.

Haruna said that the suspects have equally confessed to the crime and the Sim card used in sending the threatening messages to the manager has also been recovered from their possession.

However, the case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court.

Haruna restated the advice of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustapha Dandaura for the public to be wary of their close aids including domestic staff and to do thorough background checks before employing such persons in order to avert this kind of ugly situation.
