Vulture arrested by Police ‘consumed N30,000 worth of meat’ in 6 days

The Adamawa state police command says a vulture arrested in Maiha area of the state has consumed meat worth N30,000 after spending six days in detention.

Othman Abubakar, the public relations officer of the command, said the command might incur more cost due to the continued detention of the vulture as an investigation into the appearance of the bird was ongoing.

Adamu Madaki, the commissioner of police, had confirmed the arrest of the vulture and its owner following a formal complaint from a senior member of the community, who had said the bird’s presence caused fear in the community “as it was considered a harbinger of impending insurgency attacks”.

The elder said the last time someone kept three vultures in the community, the area was invaded by insurgents afterward.

The police commissioner said that he advised the elder to lodge a complaint with the divisional police officer, which subsequently, led to the arrest of the vulture and its owner.

Madaki explained that the police, upon receipt of such complaints, must launch an investigation into the matter with a view to taking the “necessary action to maintain peace and harmony”.

“So, we want to ascertain what the vulture is meant for,” Madaki said.
