The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state says Aminu Tambuwal, governor of the state, is not its candidate for the 2019 governorship poll.
Tambuwal, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, contested but lost the presidential ticket of the PDP.
The first-term governor of Sokoto is eligible for another term but he did not pick the governorship nomination form of any party.
There were reports that the PDP governorship ticket had been given to him but Ibrahim Milgoma, chairman of the PDP in the state, described this as untue.
He said Mannir Dan-iya remains the party’s flagbearer for the 2019 election but added that there was still time to substitute candidate according to the law.
The chairman said the party would formally announce any change if any in future noting that substitution had processes which must be complied with based on electoral guidelines.
He said the party members are still united and will continue to support any person that emerged victorious during the concluded primaries and urged loyalists to work toward ensuring maximum success of all party candidates in coming elections.
