Police in Sokoto state have raided a ‘stolen goods’ market where 14 suspects were arrested. Suspected stolen goods including phone sets, electronics and jewelries were recovered from the suspects.
Spokesman of the state police command, Al-Mustapha Sani, who disclosed this yesterday, said the police had received complaints about operations of the illegal market termed ‘one hour market’, suspected to be a criminal hideout.
He added that traders in the market were suspected to be dealing in stolen electronics, handsets, jewelries and other household items.
The police spokesman noted that the market, which operated daily between 6:00pm and 7.00Pm, was harbouring suspected burglars, housebreakers, thieves and other petty criminals.
He said of the 14 arrested, 7 had been charged while the remaining suspects were cleared and released.
