Group moves against militancy in Rivers, trains 17

In a bid to divert the attention of youths of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State from militancy, 17 of them have been trained in different vocational skills. Handing starter packs to them at the end of the training programme, Executive Director, Okrika Ethnic Nationality and Wakirike Development Coalition, Mrs Ibifama Saya-Walaku, expressed hope that the exercise will reduce unemployment in the area, adding that the idea was initiated by Wakirike Education Trust fund.

He said that the programme will raise entrepreneurs in Okrika, who will transform into major employers of labour. “Use these starter-packs for self development. Please, do not sell them like some people dido. If you grow in your various businesses, in the future this same organisation will send new trainees to you and we expect some subsidized payment for the time they will spend acquiring the required skills.” She said that the total value of the starter pack was N4million, adding that beneficiaries should utilise the opportunity very well. Dukoni Tamunoibuomi, who did Catering and Blessing David, who trained in Tailoring thanked the organisers of the training programme, promising that all of them will make good use of the opportunity.
