Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday said the kidnappers of the Oniba of Iba,  Oba Goriola Oseni, rescued at the weekend in Lagos will face the full wrath of the law, just as the kidnappers spilled the beans that they were paid N15.1 million ransom to secure his release.

The governor, in his statement on the rescue of the Oniba of Iba and parade of two suspected kidnappers read by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kaze, at Lagos House Ikeja,  noted that though kidnapping is an offence, abduction of an Oba is a sacrilege that attracts strict punishment in Yorubaland.

Ambode said, “Permit me to state that the kidnap of an Oba in Yoruba land is a sacrilege and a complete discretion of the cultural values of the yoruba people that must not go unpunished.”

The governor added that the arrest of the suspect was a clear warning to criminal elements that the state government valued and cherished the Yoruba tradition and would leave no stone unturned to ensure that it was protected.

He also commended the ongoing  Operation Awatse designed to flush out militants and criminals that have been terrorizing riverine communities in the state.

“This operation is yielding desirable results and will continue until those criminal activities are completely stamped out,” he added.

Fielding questions from journalists, one of the nine-man gang who simply gave his name as Isaiah Dodomu, who hails from Ondo State that was paraded with another suspect identified as Toba Forejo said,” I am a bunkering man, when this government stopped the bunkering, our leaders arranged another group and we started kidnapping to manage our selves.
