Military, Police intensify attack on Arepo vandals

Military and Police operatives, in a joint operation yesterday, continued the bombardment of Iroko creeks in Arepo area of Ogun State as part of on-going battle to flush out oil pipeline vandals from the areas. Similarly, Military and Police authorities have beefed up security measures at Ewedogbon area of Totowu, a riverine community in Ishuti, Igando, old Alimosho Local Government Area and Isawo, Ikorodu areas of Lagos State towards containing invasion of suspected Niger Delta militants. Though, at the time of filling this report, no casualty was officially recorded at Arepo as “Operation Awate” continued. Many people were feared dead, last Thursday, as the military commenced bombardment of Iroko creeks in Arepo area suspected to be inhabited by militants and pipeline vandals. A source who preferred anonymity at Rapid Response Squad, RRS, confirmed the continued bombardment of the areas by joint military and police teams yesterday. Lagos Assembly urges relevant authorities to secure areas Meantime, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to prevail on the Military and Police authorities to secure firmly the riverine areas as well as other areas facing security challenge in the state. All those necessary areas should be beefed up. A member of the state assembly, Hon Olarewaju Ibrahim, representing Badagry Constituency I, in an interview with Vanguard said the lawmakers are worried over the security challenge confronting the state and quickly, added that the state would not rest on its oars in protecting the lives and properties of residents. According to him, “We have discussed on the floor of the house and directed the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to call all necessary military and police officers to secure all the areas having security challenge with all the apparatus possible. “If all the necessary measures are put in place, am sure the insecurity challenge will be a thing of the past.”
