NIS Arrests 144 Child Traffickers In Oyo



No fewer than 144 traffickers have been arrested and 131 children including 25 minors rescued by men of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in the last two months in Oyo State.

The culprits included 75 Nigerians and 69 non-Nigerians.

The state NIS Comptroller, Mrs. Victoria Isangedighi while speaking with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who paid her courtesy visit disclosed that 56 children had been reunited with their Nigerian parents. The children, who were victims of child trafficking by people from within the country and foreigners alike were rescued through the intelligence and surveillance efforts of men of the NIS during various operations at different locations within the state in the last four months.

“We have arrested about 144 traffickers since February. Out of this figure, 75 of them are Nigerians while the remaining 69 are non-Nigerians.

“Also, 131 children has been rescued from various human traffickers. 75 of them are minors while the remaining 56 have been reunited with their parents.
