There was pandemonium at Fatoki community, in Igando area of Lagos State, yesterday, when suspected Militants terrorized the area.
The militants were said to have arrived the place at the wee hours and started unleashing terror on the residents.
The hoodlums were allegedly attempted to abduct a rich man but he was said to have managed to escaped.
LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that immediately they arrived the scene they started shooting sporadically at anyone they saw.
Six persons including a police Inspector were shot by the hoodlums who never cared about any security around.
The Police were said to have arrived the scene and engaged the Militants in a gun battle that lasted for about two hours.
A Police source at the headquarters told Sunday LEADERSHIP that when the militants exhausted their bullets, they escaped after abandoning their bullets. They moved through Totowu Waterways, in Ogun State and also abandoned some of the guns there.
A resident,Donald Asiedu told Crime reporters that ,”We have a vigilance group. We were in our duty posts when the militants stormed our community. They were armed with superior armed than us. We took to our heels. They were armed with chain guns. They were shooting everywhere. I thank God that we were able to escape from the militant.”
Asiedu said the Militant attempted to kidnap a businessman but the man escaped through the window.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos said two persons including a police Inspector were shot.
Badmos said, “The Command foiled an attempt by a group of Militants that invaded Fatoki Community in Igando area of the State. The hoodlums stormed the Place through the waterways ,shooting sporadically. Police teams were dispatched quickly mobilised to the scene and engaged the militants in a gun battle. The superior fire power of the Police,forced the militants to abandon their mission and escaped through Totowu Waterways. A civilian and a Police Inspector were injured during the gun battle. I want members of the Public to report to the nearest Police station,anyone seen with bullet injuries as some of the hoodlums escaped with bullet injuries.”
