An eye witness, Daniel Musa, told Daily Trust on phone that the trouble started when a group of youth from Shongom sneaked into the town last night were they allegedly killed a watchman in a farm located at the border of Billiri and Shongom.

According to the witness the youths mostly women carrying machetes and cutlasses, set fire on tires to protest what they describe as failure of the authority concerned to take action in what is becoming a daily occurrences.

“The youth were angry that government failed to take action when a male resident of Billiri was shot last Wednesday, only to wake up this morning to find corpse of another Billiri man who was killed last night,” Mr. Musa said.

When contacted, the spokesman of Gombe State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Usman, who confirmed the incident said the police have sent reinforcement team to disperse the youth and calm down the situation.

DSP Usman said effort is being made to facilitate free movement of vehicles on the highway.

However, as at the time of filing this report the road is still being blocked by the protesters
