Eleven members of a vigilante group and a Tanker driver died Thursday in an accident in Bauchi State.
The vigilantes’ vehicle, Hilux Van, reportedly had a head on collision with a White Petroleum Tanker with registration number GML-534-XA heading towards Ningi town.
The vigilantes, who were members of Danga Vigilante group, were heading to Bauchi after a meeting when the accdent occured.
According to Bauchi State police command’s spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed, the accident occurred at Kafin Liman Village, along Bauchi Ganjuwa road in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State.
He said that as a result 12 persons including the Tanker driver sustained various degrees of injuries.
He added that Police Patrol team (Safer Highways) and FRSC officials rushed to the scene and rushed the casualties to ATBU Teaching Hospital.
He however stated that 12 of the Victims comprising of 11 Danga Vigilante Group members,and the Tanker Driver whose identity is yet to be ascertained were certified dead on arrival by a medical doctor while one other victim is responding to treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
The victims have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at the Bauchi Central Cemetary after a funeral Prayer at Gwallaga Jumu’at Mosque.
The burial was attended by hundreds of people including government dignitaries among whom are the Bauchi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Uba Ahmed Nana and the Speaker, Bauchi State House Of Assembly, Alhaji Kawuwa Shehu Damina among others.
