Kano Killing: Court Refuses Suspects Bail

A magistrate court in Kano has rejected the bail application filed by the five suspects arrested in the murder a 74-year-old female trader at Kofar Wambai market, Bridget Agbahime,.

It will be recalled that Agbahime was killed in a broad daylight over an alleged blasphemy.

Days after the ugly incident, the five suspects, Ahmed Dauda, Abdullahi Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdulllahi were arrested and charged to court.

At the hearing, yesterday, Gambo Abdulsalam, counsel to the accused, moved the motion for their bail, arguing that the allegations were bailable offences.

However, the counsel to the plaintiff, Ekwe Sunday, opposed the bail application, arguing that the case was an established capital offence.

He said the right thing had been done by investigating the suspects and charging them to court.

The chief magistrate, Mohammed Jibrin, however, ordered that the suspects be remanded in custody.
