The Seme area command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested a suspect, Mr Sylvester Gbenga and handed him over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after he was found to be in possession of 106 parcel of illicit substances suspected to be cannabis (Indian hemp), four international passports belonging to four different people, three handsets, one I-pad, the sum of N199,500.00 and 72,000 CFA Francs.


The suspect concealed cannabis in a Toyota Sequoia SUV with Lagos registration number EKY 407 CA and was arrested at Gbaji Customs checkpoint, on Lagos–Badagry Expressway.


The arrest was made possible through intelligence gathering by the surveillance officers, led by Abubakar Hamza, who trailed the suspect from the neighbouring country (Benin Republic) to the point of entry before he was picked up.


The suspect, Mr Sylvester Gbenga, alongside the 106 parcel suspected cannabis had been handed over to the NDLEA commander at Seme border command.


Speaking on the arrest, acting Customs Area Controller, H. A. Sabo, disclosed that attempt by the suspect to bribe officers on duty with the sum of N47,500 in order to evade arrest was resisted.


The representative of the NDLEA commander acknowledged the receipt of the suspect; the drugs and the original case file for further investigation and possible prosecution.
