The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has promised to ensure that the Nigeria Police operates within the principles of democratic policing and be accountable to citizens at all times.
In his maiden speech to police officers after taking over from Solomon Arase as the 19th indigenous Inspector General of Police (IGP) at a ceremony held in Force Headquarters, Abuja, Idris said henceforth, the police would be guided by international core values of policing with strict respect for diversity, courage, compassion and professionalism.

He said the police would have as its main focus, integrity and accountability as its cardinal operational principles in all its actions and would punish personnel who deviate.
He said henceforth, the police would improve responsiveness and swiftness in the treatment of complaints from members of the public. Idris said vetted and patriotic officers would be posted to strengthen the X squad units to be deployed to tackle corruption and abuse of office at federal, state and local government levels.
