The Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS) in Yobe, said it has distributed relief materials to over 1,000 widows and children displaced by insurgency in the state.

Alhaji Zabu Buba, Yobe secretary of the society, stated this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

He said the exercise was carried out in collaborative with the Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE) and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Zabu said the beneficiaries were displaced persons residing in host communities and those relocating back to their communities.

“The collaboration between the three organs was to ensure judicious distribution of the materials to reach the targeted beneficiaries and victims of insurgency.

“Every household was given a set of mattresses for parents and children, wrappers for women and girl child, brocade for men and boys.

“They were also provided with blankets, beverages, plastic containers, soaps, detergents and mosquito nets, among others” Zabu said.

Mrs Hauwa Musa, one of the beneficiaries, commended the distribution process, saying it was transparent and had captured the actual victims.

Rakiya Usman, a mother of four, said a mattress was given to each of the five members of her family. (NAN)
