Police nab serial rapist in Oyo

The Oyo State Police command has arrested a notorious serial rapist, Akinlolu Ogunlade (65), who specialises in abducting female teenagers and keeping them in his hideout permanently as sex slaves.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, while parading Ogunlade along with other suspects, said one of his victims, Edelaga OlabisI (11), left home on the night of May 27, 2016 for a vigil at Abidi-Odan area of Akobo and did not return home on Saturday May 28,2016 as expected. Based on information, police detectives later traced the victim to the hideout of the suspect at Abidi-Odan.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, a known habitual rapist, forcefully abducted the victim in the morning of May 28, 2016 while returning from vigil and kept her in his room until May 30, 2016 when she was rescued. Certified medical report disclosed that the suspect had sexual intercourse severally with the victim. The suspect will face the law in court appropriately,” Oyebade said.

The suspect confessed to the crime while talking to reporters, noting that he only raped the minor twice.

Similarly, the police boss said that on May 15, 2016 around 4pm, a report was received that one Alhaji Adamu Auta left Igangan town on his way to Abule-Tapa, but was kidnapped by unknown gunmen.  Oyebade noted that the kidnappers later called the family of the victim on phone and demanded a ransom of N2.5 million to secure the release of the victim.
