Police Arrest Fake Lawyer Over N20 Million Fraud



A 40-year-old man was arrested by the police for falsely presenting himself as a legal practitioner and defrauding a businessman of N20 million.

The suspect, who resides at Arab Road, Kubwa, was said to have procured some landed property at different locations in the area from the money he collected from the victim but misappropriated part of it. City News gathered that the victim, who lives in Benin, had paid the money through bank lodgements at different times to the suspect who also claimed to be an agent who would manage the property for him. The source said the victim later visited Kubwa at the instance of an informant only to discover that a telecommunication mast had been erected on one of the acquired lands, while another one was converted to a mechanic workshop.

“He was even collecting rent from tenants in two flats of one of the buildings he bought for the man without remitting the proceeds to him,” the source said.

City News learnt that the suspect, who was alleged to have defrauded other people, was however apprehended by the police following a complaint by the victim.

When contacted, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would be charged to court after investigation has been carried out.
