The assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration, Zone A, Musa Maza, has ordered a continuous raid of brothels in Lagos and Ogun states where young girls are forced into prostitution. The directive is sequel to the recent rescue of three young girls from the Morning Star Hotel, Sango Otta, Ogun, State, where they were allegedly used as prostitutes by their elder sister.

Two suspected members of the syndicate, Mariam John and Rose Akpojaro, have since been arrested.  The victims, who were identified as Happiness John, 23, Love John, 20, and Joy Lawrence, 23, were rescued on Tuesday. The manager of the hotel, Felix Jamiu, was arrested on Friday by officials of the NIS. Our reporter gathered that Joy and one of the girls had escaped from the brothel, saying they could no longer bear the pains and humiliation of sleeping with different men for money.

Joy said she and her cousins, Happiness and Love, were brought to Lagos in January 2016, by their elder sister under the pretence that she would help them to get jobs. She alleged that she was enslaved for six months in a local prostitution ring headed by her cousin.
She claimed that they were also introduced into smoking cannabis, adding that Mariam always became violent if she refused to sleep with any man.
She explained that her quest for a job in the fashion or music industry made her an easy prey for the sex trafficking gang headed by her cousin. She added that her poor family background was another factor that got her into that situation.
“I am from a poor home. My parents are farmers. I help them out in the farm, so life in the village was very boring and tasteless. Every day we look forward to a better future. I had wanted to be a fashion designer.
Parading the suspects before handing them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Lagos, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration said that as soon as he received the information, he detailed some detectives to investigate the matter.
“My men raided the brothel, arrested two women and rescued three girls who were recruited into the business by their elder sister.
“This is how members of the sex syndicate also help other international gangs to recruit girls who are later sent to Europe and Asia for prostitution,” he said.
