The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Solomon Arase has warned that policemen and officers found guilty of human rights violation shall be dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP who made the assertion in an interview with journalists during the Human Rights Training of Trainers’ Workshop for Instructors of Nigeria Police Force Training Institutions in the Northern Region in Kaduna, said he would monitor activities of men and officers to ensure strict adherence to respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

Represented by Olufemi Adenaike, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) In-Charge of Training and Development, the IGP said, “We will go out there to see what is happening because we cannot be spending much money on their training and allowing them to misbehave, we will try them. If they are found guilty, they get punished, including dismissal.”

In her welcome address, Executive Director, PRAWA and Project Coordinator, Nigeria Police Human Rights Training Project, Dr. Uju Agomoh described the promotion and protection of human rights as significant for any country that wants to ensure compliance to international standards.
